Ling Chi - This absolutely horrible form of torture was prevalent in China as late as 1905. The victim was tortured by cutting/slicing him with the use of a very sharp knife. Torture usually started with the cutting out of the eyes. This was done to blind the victim for the rest of the act so as to increase mental agony. Successive cuts would sever the victim’s ears, nose, lips, fingers, toes and ultimately large parts of flesh. The entire process would take over 3 days.

Numbers stations are mysterious shortwave radio channels of indiscernible origin that exist in countries all across the world and have been reported since World War 1. They are identifiable by the unusual contents of their broadcasts: seemingly random sequences of numbers, words, letters, tunes, and Morse code, usually spoken by artificially generated voices of women and children.
The most common theory regarding the purpose of these bizarre stations is that they’re used by governments the world over to secretly transmit encrypted commands and messages to spies. That said, even though numbers stations have been discovered all over the globe and in any number of different languages, no government has ever officially acknowledged their existence. While the espionage theory is a logical one, with no official confirmation of their purpose the jury is still out.
One particularly odd station, UVB-76, has existed since the late 1970s and has broadcast a simple, repetitive buzzing tone 24 hours a day ever since. On very rare occasions, however, listeners have reported a Russian voice interrupting the buzz to read out sequences of numbers and words, always in a consistent format — this happened once in 1997, once in 2002, once in 2006, 56 times in 2010, and 14 in 2011. As with all numbers stations, its true purpose is and will probably remain unknown, but the increase in frequency of whatever it’s doing is certainly odd.
You can listen to well over 100 recordings of numbers stations for free on archive.org but be forewarned that they’re all kind of, well, eerie. They feel like something you shouldn’t be listening to, which stands to reason since apparently you’re not supposed to know they exist.

DID YOU KNOW the cockroaches for the final segment of CREEPSHOW were collected from a cave of bat shit in Trinidad? Over 6,000 of the rare species, Blaberus Giganteus were rounded up along with another 16,000 American cockroaches. They were fed bananas, dog food and lettuce while housed in one of the makeup trailers during filming.
The bugs were kept inside 50-gallon drums that naturally became known as the “roach motel.” A slide show was also given after lunch one day for the producers to ease concerns about having the roaches on set. However, early in the shooting schedule things went wrong during a shot where the roaches were supposed to pour out of an air vent. Because the prop department had failed to seal off the backstage area, thousands of insects were released into the open and many found there way into the food area off set.In addition to sealing off the set, carbon dioxide was used to control the bugs, knocking them out for between 10-15 minutes. This allowed the crew an easier time setting up and cleaning the room before and after takes. For the segment’s final scene, the roaches were pumped out of a Plexiglas syringe through actor E.G. Marshall’s dummy. Timing was crucial. The roaches could not just sit in the syringe waiting. The critters give off pheromones under distress. Too much of the pheromone could anesthetize or even kill the roaches. They were loaded into the pump just as the camera was ready to rollAt the end of a month of shooting, the roaches were destroyed with a gas bomb.
